Dear Clara,
From the beginning of time, your time, you’ve always been a delight to me. Your wide-eyed open expression captured and continues to capture my heart. You’ve always been adorable. So, simply seeing you, or even hearing about what you’re doing, brings me happiness. You have brought me joy all these eighteen years, and I plan for that continue.
Most recently, watching you in your now mature role of “cousin on the farm” during this summer’s family reunion, I was very impressed with how you connected with all your various-aged cousins. You were “one with them,” but also very much a leader. To your credit, you had more maturity and experience under your belt but didn’t let that get in the way of having fun with everyone. I know that’s tricky. Your younger cousins have formed a special bond, just because they are the same age and see each other more often. But that didn’t seem to keep you separate from them.
How could you be so wise, and yet, so young?
Wisdom comes from maturity, using life’s experience to shape your thinking and actions. Your adorability factor, that I mentioned early, has developed into a lovely, wise, maturity as you have come of age. It’s delightful to see it so pronounced. Your decision to go to China on a service-vacation, shows real grit and character. You could have used that time and money to go on a sight-seeing tour. Instead, you chose service. That shows tremendous sense of purpose and self-esteem. And you’re only eighteen. I think that is remarkable.
I was proud of that way you handled the recent prom experience, as well. You didn’t even want to go. But you did, and you made the most of it, and treated your date with kindness and respect. Another check mark goes into the “Lovely-wise-maturity” box. And what a beautiful date you were. Absolutely sensational. That kid was the luckiest boy at the ball.
You’re a talented, thoughtful, and gracious young woman. I’m proud of all you’ve accomplished. I know you are headed for great and marvelous things. You’ve made such good choices, so far. You can trust your excellent intuition. Additionally guided by the Holy Ghost, you are on track to become a most remarkable human.
You’ve made me a happy and proud grandpa.
Happy Birthday, Clara!
Love you lots,
Grandpa Kelly
